Finding a Pack/Troop
If you’re new to Scouting, you need to know that you select the unit you and
your child would like to join—it isn’t selected for you or based on where you
live. In choosing a unit, what’s most important is that you feel it’s the right
place for you.
It’s easy to find a Scout unit to join. You already may be familiar with units
in your area—through friends, your church, or events in the media. You can
also check your telephone directory for Boy Scouts of America. Or, you
can find your local council on the Boy Scouts of America Web site at www.
scouting.org—click on the link “Sign Up for Scouting”.
All units are different and operate autonomously. So, once you’ve identified
possible units to join, it’s a good idea to contact the unit leader and ask to
attend a meeting to observe and to meet the members. Scouting is very open
and welcoming to new members.
